Position Available - Financial Controller

The Financial Controller at »Ê¹Ú²ÊƱ is responsible for managing the institution’s overall financial health and ensuring the integrity of its fiscal operations. This includes overseeing accounting procedures and risk management, preparing financial statements, leading annual budget preparation, and ensuring compliance with regulatory and reporting requirements. The Controller works closely with senior leadership to support strategic planning through financial forecasting, analysis, and the development of sound financial policies. Additionally, the role involves supervising business office staff, coordinating and executing audits, and maintaining effective internal controls to safeguard the College’s assets. This position reports to the President and is full time, year-round, and in person.

Primary Focus:  Strategic financial oversight, compliance, audits, board reporting, and investment management.

³Ò´Ç²¹±ô:Ìý Candidate who aligns with the school’s mission, can adopt and assess current financial processes, implement gradual improvements to increase office efficiency, and eventually lead the transition to a new accounting software system.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Finance & Oversight

  • Prepare/review financial statements, Board packets
  • Weekly financial review with President
  • Represent Business Office at Finance Committee and Board meetings
  • Lead budget process with assistance from team
  • Oversee investment accounts and long-term strategies
  • Manage transfers, reimbursements, capital funding

Compliance & Audit

  • Oversee compliance reporting (IPEDS, HLC, IRS, FISAP, etc.)
  • Lead annual audit (990, single audit, DOE filings)
  • Insurance review, cost analysis, applications
  • 403b notices, ACA compliance, Form 5500, 1098-T review

Payroll Oversight

  • Final approval of payroll and tax documents (W-2/W-3, 403b files)
  • Handle unemployment claims, payroll audits
  • Approve work-study reimbursements
  • Help balance payroll reports to GL and tax filings

Leadership & Controls

  • Maintain internal controls and accounting procedures
  • Train and support office staff (Office Manager / Staff Accountant)
  • Oversee accounting system (Great Plains)
  • Prepare and distribute enrollment materials, inform employees of changes, and provide ongoing support throughout the year

Accounting & Reconciliation

  • Lead monthly and year-end close
  • Reconcile accounts (bank, scholarships, assets)
  • Maintain fixed asset worksheet

Risk Management

  • Conduct annual reviews of corporate and employee benefit insurance policies, including cost analysis and policy comparisons
  • Meet with brokers and complete required applications for both corporate and employee plans
  • Ensure compliance with the Affordable Care Act and other insurance regulations

Qualifications

  • MBA and/or CPA preferred
  • Accounting information systems experience
    • MS Dynamics Great Plains
    • CAMS or other student/billing software
    • Other ERP/ Accounting software experience
    • Paylocity (payroll)
  • General software application experience
    • MS Office – Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook
    • Strongly proficient in excel (pivot, v-lookup)
  • General Skills
    • Ability to manage people and processes
    • Strong written and oral communication skills
    • Outstanding customer service
    • Analytical and detail-oriented
    • Thorough and investigative problem-solving abilities
    • Working knowledge of GAAP, FASB Pronouncements, and IRS regulation
    • Excellent use of judgment and discretion
    • Alignment with mission & vision of the College
    • Accounting software migration experience
